Introducing Ezra Andrew Mullan

So, baby Mullan has finaly made his debut.  at 11 days late, Ezra Andrew decided to show his gorgeous face!

we started off  going into the hospital for observation and possible inducing on sunday at 1:30/2. while being monitored i was having very mild contractions so they wouldn’t induce me then anyway.  i asked to go home as the other option was staying in and waiting it out.  if contractions stopped they would induce me at 9 that evening.  i did not want to sit there listening to others in pain and retching.  no thanks.  so they let me go home and lo and behold just before midnight some of my waters broke  and i was having still mild contractions but they were every 4ish minutes.  at 1 i called the birth center and talked to the midwife.  b/c i wanted a water birth, she said to come on in and there was very slight bleeding.

we arrived around 1:30 and just talked with her and she left us to it for a bit.  contractions were getting stronger but still not bad.  i’ll have to check with andy’s documentation of times, but maybe around 2:30 she examined me, i was 4cm and she thought that i could be ready for the birthing pool.  so she started that, we hung out, she made me a banana smoothie and got me some ice water.  andy got a cup of tea as well.  eventually got in the pool and it was heavenly warm!  i made it until just after 4 before i asked for some gas and air.  she was impressed!  maybe around 5:30 i had to get out as more ladies had come in and there weren’t enough midwives to be there with my for the birth.

so out we came, contractions felt verse ofcourse.  she examined me again and broke my waters around 6, 6:30. there was some meconium in my waters and i was only 6/7cm.   there were going to monitor the baby to make sure he was ok and possibly send me to the delivery suite incase baby needed more care.  but just before 7 i was ready to push and baby came at 7:17!  the midwife was pleased as her shift was ending at quarter past! so she got to meet ezra!

the cord was wrapped around Ezra’s neck twice and therefore, this is the first time that andy didn’t get to cut the cord!  they had too give him a bit of oxygen but he was well.

the midwives also were impressed with my huge placenta!  ha ha..the things they find interesting! Ezra weighed in at 3.685kg which translates to 8lbs 2oz.

he was definitely smaller than we expected as they had been measuring him big!  and jonah was 7lbs 15.5oz i was expecting a bigger jump!  but thankfully he was only 8.2!

i’ll leave it here for now.  oh and my mom had to change her flight from early monday morning to tuesday morning! thankfully God made all things possible!  Praise God!

Some verses given to us –

Ezra7v10: ‘For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.’

Psalm 127v3-5: ‘ Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
         The fruit of the womb is a reward.
 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
         So are the children of one’s youth.
 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
         They shall not be ashamed,
         But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.’
